Make Your Own Recovery Drink

Lots of people are using coconut water as a sports drink but while it’s incredibly high in potassium it lacks the ideal sodium, potassium, and carbohydrate ratio sports drinks provide. This is a recipe from Laura Rosenberg, MS, RD, CDN, my chef instructor for the cooking portion of the 4-Day Sports Nutrition Intensive Course I took last month at The Natural Gourmet Institute. All the recipes she created were specifically tied to our nutrition lessons. I share this one as I’m forever freaked out by the coloring (read: additives) in most readily available sports drinks. But the power of a quick recovery drink cannot be underestimated so it’s worth giving this one a try.
